The artistic competition “Young between the two sides of the Mediterranean” is organized by Progettomondo in Beni Mellal within the context of the SafeJourney project, co-financed by the European Union and executed by Progettomondo in partnership with the Union Institute for Development Cooperation (ISCOS), the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI) and the National Association Beyond Borders – Morocco (ANOLF).

The competition is part of the SafeJourney Project’s Information Campaign on the risks of irregular migration, whose objective is to contribute to changing the perception and vision of the irregular migration phenomenon, aiming to raise awareness in the social context, with an emphasis on the voices of returning migrants, whose stories and experiences can help to break the myths associated with irregular migration.

This artistic competition is supported by the ” House of Culture ” in Beni Mellal and aims to give young people the opportunity to express themselves freely and encourage their artistic spirit by addressing questions such as: How do you imagine the other side of the Mediterranean? How would you describe the “Morocco of your dreams”? How do you experience the return of migrants in summer?

Different artistic genres will be present in this contest, including poetry, storytelling, drawing, painting, photography. The tribute ceremony for the winners of the competitions will be public and will take place on the “International Migrants Day” (December 18, 2021). Among the awarding criteria taken into consideration: artistic value, originality of the work and relevance to the current issue.

Participation in the competition is open to young artists who can choose one category among visual arts, literature and music. Interested candidates should send their creations to the following email address: safejourney@progettomondo.org

The artistic competition contest will be organized in 4 stages:

  • Stage 1 (November 11-30, 2021): launching of the artistic competition and reception of the works.
  • Second stage (from the first to the 5th of December 2021): Review of the received works and selection of the works that will be published on the Internet.
  • Third stage (December 5 to 15, 2021): Posting of works, public voting, selection of the first three winners, and final selection of the first winner by the jury.
  • Fourth stage (December 18): Ceremony of awarding the tribute to the winner at the House of Culture of Beni Mellal.

The choice of the winner is entrusted to a jury composed of the project team and art professionals and a second jury composed of visitors to the Facebook page (Meta) of the SafeJourney project (the public jury).
